Carbon monoxide emission 0.5 gms per km/a day in the city RTC buses to be converted into CNG in phased manner
HYDERABAD: Transport Minister Kanna Laksminarayana announced on Monday that 140 more centres to issue pollution under control (PUC) certificates would be started in the city, taking their number to 240. Replying to a question by K.R.Amos (Congress) and others in the Legislative Council, he said, the emission of carbon monoxide was 0.5 grams per km/a day in the city, as against the permissible norm of 2.2 gms for Bharat-III standards. It was around 3 gms, as against 2.27 gms, in other cities in the State. He said, 23,23,267 vehicles were plying in the GHMC limits and other towns. Outlining the measures initiated to control pollution, he said, as a disincentive, green tax was being levied on over seven-year-old transport vehicles and non-transport vehicles of more than 15 years of age. The RTC buses in Hyderabad and Vijayawada were proposed to be converted into CNG in a phased manner, depending on its availability. Following a plea by S.Indrasain Reddy (Congress), Chairman A. Chakrapani announced that a meeting with the Minister would be convened in his chambers later on the issue.
