Traffic snarls

Power cuts are becoming frequent in Tiruchi. This erratic supply besides besetting residents, also troubles the travellers. The T.V. Koil-Chennai by pass link road is indeed scary in the dark with buses plying at incredible speed with their headlights blazing bright. Traffic congestions during peak hours further worsen the dazed situation. I request transport and E.B. authorities to intervene and do the needful.

Parking charge

I was very much shocked by the alarming hike, a cent per cent, in car/van/auto parking charges at Tiruchi Railway Junction. Previous month when I had parked the vehicle there, I paid Rs.5/- only. I was told that this hike is with effect from 01-11-07. There is no notice or any indication of hike in parking charges except in the token in the form of new charges stamped in red colour and old value manually erased with blue ink.

When there is no additional facility provided, how the charge can be hiked at an abnormal rate and is it done with the approval of concerned authorities? Added to above woes, if one sees the statement “Parking at owner’s risk” in the same coupon, the question that will immediately arise in our minds is, what for then the parking charges are collected. I would request the authorities concerned to set right it.

Take sincere steps

The Managing Director of ELCOT has mentioned recently that IT Majors have not evinced interest in setting up their business in Tiruchi, since there are no proper air connections with other cities.

This view is totally unrealistic and false. After all, airways do not run their business as charity.

The CII, ministers and bureaucrats utter sermons repeatedly on the so called ‘Tidel Park.’ The project is yet to take off in the real sense of the term. Tiruchi has all the advantages when compared to other Tier-II cities- why, even Chennai which is suffocating. Land, water, enlightened and intelligent work force, educational institutions for back-up, air and rail connections are in abundance.

What is needed is sincere, concrete and whole hearted action from the State Government.

Train service

Tiruchi people particularly senior citizen ,women and children find it difficult to travel to Bangalore as they could not get accommodation in Mysore Express, which is the only train to this city and it always seems to be over crowded. Several representations were made to railway directly and through media to introduce a fast day express between Tiruchi and Bangalore so that people can travel by train instead of bus conveniently. I request the concerned authorities to consider this and introduce a day express at the earliest.

Bad roads

Tiruchi- Thanjavur National High Way is a very important sector with heavy passengers and goods traffic catering to the needs of many industrial units including BHEL and prominent educational institutions like NIT-T, SASTRA and Thanjavur Medical College.

There are lots of potholes on the road in many stretches causing much difficulty in driving and posing potential hazards particularly during night.

I appeal to the authorities concerned to kindly take some urgent action to patch up these pot holes at least on a temporary measure to alleviate the inconvenience caused to the travelling public.

Bus service

All town buses including those plying via Thillainagar and Woraiyur may be rescheduled to touch Tiruchi Railway Junction like in Chennai Central and Egmore.

Improve garbage clearance

This has reference to City Pulse (The Hindu, November 15). Shortage of staff and vehicles are cited as the reason for the non-removal of garbage.

It may be partially true, but the motivation of sanitary workers is most important. Some sanitary workers during their duty time work for commercial establishments. The authorities must clearly instruct the workers about their duties.

Corporation authorities must review the actual requirement of staff for clearing garbage and depute required staff.

If corporation finds it difficult to manage, the work can be out sourced, by fixing a good agency. Garbage is used as raw materials for some products. Such, production units can be tied up for garbage clearance.

Monthly bills

At present the Tiruchi Corporation is not issuing bi-monthly bills or monthly bills for water consumed.

Besides, water tax in other states is charged in proportion to the water consumed.

This is not only unfair but also burdensome.
