Two hacked to death over cricket match
Special Correspondent
BANGALORE: Armed men hacked to death two youths at Vanniganahalli village on Magadi Road on the outskirts of the city on Sunday night.
The Tavarekere police in Ramanagara district, who have registered a case, suspect that the twin murder was a fallout of a quarrel over cricket match that was played between two teams on Sunday evening. The police do not rule out other motives behind the killing.
The police gave the names of the dead as Venkatesh and Puttaraju, both aged 20 and residents of Vanniganahalli.
On Sunday evening, a group of youths from Vanniganahalli won a cricket match against a team from the neighbouring Chennenahalli village. Around 10 p.m. when the members of the victorious team were celebrating at Government Primary School grounds at Vanniganhalli, eight men from Chennenahalli, who came on four motorcycles, attacked them with bats, clubs and swords, the police said.
While Venkatesh and Puttaraju were killed on the spot, three of their friends were injured, the police said. The Superintendent of Police, Ramanagara, H.S. Revanna, has constituted two teams to trace the assailants.
