‘30 p.c. HRA for State staff under study’

Special Correspondent

‘HYDERABAD: The proposal for sanctioning 30 per cent house rent allowance to government employees in the twin cities consequent to the A1 status accorded to Hyderabad is under examination, Finance Minister K. Rosaiah informed the Legislative Council on Monday.

Replying to a calling-attention notice by K. Nageshwar, he said the government would take a decision after examining the pros and cons of the issue.

Consequent to the A1 status accorded to the city, the Central government employees were eligible for HRA at 30 per cent of the pay and proportionate to the City Compensatory Allowance (CCA) with effect from September 1. He said the chairman of JAC of Employees, Teachers and Workers and the president of AP Secretariat Association had requested for 30 per cent HRA to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation staff, on a par with the Central employees.

Replying to another calling-attention notice given by B. Radhakrishnaiah, Transport Minister Kanna Lakshminarayana denied any discrimination between 3,750 casual drivers and conductors of APSRTC who were regularised and 165 others who were engaged by civil contractors on work-charge basis. He said the casual crew were regularised in the time scale of pay from October 5, 2007. He said 14 employees were dismissed for contesting elections to local bodies in 2006 without resigning their jobs. Disciplinary action against 17 others was in progress.
