AIADMK workers stage demonstration

Tiruchi: A large number of cadres of the party All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) staged a demonstration in front of Collectorate here on Monday demanding redressal of the grievances of sugarcane growers and immediate disbursement of dues to the farmers.

The party had alleged that Rs.250 crores were due to farmers from sugar mills and announced that agitations would be staged at various centres to press for its demands.

The agitation in Tiruchi was led by former minister and party’s election wing secretary Pollachi Jayaraman. Party leaders from the Tiruchi urban and rural, Pudukottai, Perambalur and Karur districts participated in the agitation. The agitators raised slogans condemning the State Government and demanding immediate action on their demands.

Members of AIADMK from Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts staged a demonstration here on Monday.

Durai Govindarajan, State Agriculture wing secretary of the party, led the agitation. Nagapattinam district secretary O. S. Manian, former ministers R.Vaidyalingam, Azhagu Thirunavukarasu and R. Jeevanandam, K. Thangamuthu, former chairman of Tamil Nadu Text Book Society, MLAs R. Duraikannu, M. V. R.Veerakabilan, R. K. Bharathimohan and Ilamathi Subramanian, former MLA Rama.Ramanathan participated in the agitation.
