Women will get rightful share: Sonia Gandhi

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Monday expressed the hope that the Women’s Reservation Bill would soon be introduced in Parliament.

There was reservation for women in Panchayati Raj institutions. “Soon you will get your rightful share [33 per cent reservation] in Assembly and Parliament,” she told an impressive gathering at a function organised by the Mahila Congress here.

Urging women not to lose patience, Ms. Gandhi said they had to persevere with self-confidence.

A woman’s life was full of struggles and challenges but there could be no doubt that a society owed its foundation and identity to women. “Soon this will be realised and will be in full play in future.”

Several Mahila Congress members were not allowed entry into the Talkatora Stadium with security men arguing that the venue was already full. Attendance exceeded the numbers at the AICC meeting held at the same venue on Saturday.

The function was held to felicitate Ms. Gandhi for her efforts towards declaration of October 2 as International Non-Violence Day.
