Kerala scents victory

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala scented victory over Goa at the end of the second day’s play in the South Zone Polly Umrigar Trophy under-15 cricket tournament here on Monday.

Anish Narvekkar took six for 89 to bring a swift end to the Kerala innings which resumed at 278 for seven. But Kerala’s V.S. Aditya picked up five for 15 to dismiss the visitor for 104 in 43 overs. Following on, Goa was 104 for six at stumps in its second innings.

At the LNCPE, the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu encounter was poised for an exciting finish. Karnataka was in the lead by 144 with three second innings wickets left.

Medium-pacer Amal Raj (seven for 57) and Suchith Jagadeesh combined to dismiss Tamil Nadu for 158 as Karnataka clinched a narrow first innings lead. In the second innings, Karnataka was 140 for seven in 48 overs at close.

At the Agriculture College ground, half-centuries by Vinay Rao and Vaibhav enabled Hyderabad take the first innings lead against Andhra. At stumps, Hyderabad was 309 for eight in reply to Andhra’s first innings total of 278.

The scores:

Kerala 288 in 109.3 overs (Sally Samson 123, R.S. Ranjithj 42, Abhishek Mohan 35, Anish Narvekar six for 89) vs. Goa 104 in 42.5 overs (V.S. Aditya five for 15) and 104 for six in 37 overs (V.S. Aditya three for 18).

Andhra 278 in 89.4 overs vs. Hyderabad 309 for eight in 107 overs (Vinay Rao 59 not out, Vaibhav 56, Rayan Kaundinya 48, Siva Koteshwar Rao three for 66).

Karnataka 162 and 140 for seven in 48 overs (Laxman 44, Vikram Venkatesh 30, Bharath Shankar four for 56) vs. Tamil Nadu 158 (Indrajeeth 61 not out, Amal Raj seven for 57, Suchith Jagadeesh three for 53). — Principal Correspondent
