Fun and feast: A mime artist entertains guests at the Puducherry restaurant.

PUDUCHERRY: To cook on a Sunday morning is a very boring prospect. A late brunch would be ideal, one feels.

To cater for people with this turn of mind, The Promenade’s Sunday Brunch has two menu cards – one listing the dishes that could be served and the other listing the activities of a mime artist, who has been roped in to entertain customers.

Chef Kumar has drawn up an extensive menu, with food from Italy, the far East, Continental and Indian dishes, salads, summer drinks, soups and desserts. The dessert section also includes something for diabetics.

Cold soup, 8 treasure vegetable soup and oven roast cream of chicken soup are available. The Anti-Pasti table with Italian red cloth is decorated with a jar of olive oil, whole green pears, marinated mushrooms and sun-dried tomatoes to give the right touch.

At the sandwich-and-bread station you can make your own sandwich with vegetarian stuffing, roasted cherry tomato, grilled vegetables, gerkins, sautéed mushroom and grated mozzarella cheese, or fill it up with roasted chicken shredded mix with mayonnaise, mini steak, grated hard boiled eggs.

The salad bar boasts 10 kinds of salads and four dressings. “We wanted to offer a rather large spread for people to pick and choose from,” explained Kumar.

Those of you who want dishes that remind you of home can taste small vadas and mini uthappams with coconut and mint chutneys.

The main course has a spread of lamb topped with flavoured mashed potato, seafood masala, stir fried fish in hiosin sauce, egg and potato curry, baked vegetable alfredo, paneer mirchi, masala dhal and black currant pulao to choose from.
