All set for girls’ football contest

District sports stadium gets a facelift


Tamil Nadu to take on Jammu Kashmir on the first day

A special medical team formed for

this occasion


DINDIGUL: Massive arrangements have been made at the district sports stadium for the Sixth Girls Junior National Football Championships–2007 scheduled to be commenced here on Wednesday.

A complete facelift was given to the stadium. Besides the permanent gallery, a temporary gallery was set up and 10 towers installed to fix floodlights on all sides of the ground to conduct matches in the evening. A total of 600 players from 25 states are expected to take part in the national event jointly organised by the district administration and Dindigul District Football Association.

Barricades were erected at the stadium entrance to regulate the crowd. A stage was set up near the ground for VIPs.

Teams arrived

Major teams have already reached Dindigul to attend the inaugural session.

Other teams are expected to arrive on Wednesday morning or in the afternoon, according to the members of organising committee.

Flood light matches

“For the first time, the matches will be held under flood light. The teams have been divided in to eight clusters. Four to five matches will be held on each day.”

Collector R. Vasuki had formed 11 committees headed by district-level officers and deputed 100 persons to organise this event.

A special medical team comprising two doctors and three nurses have been formed to camp at the stadium. Two ambulance vans were kept ready for emergency.

Cultural shows

Artistes and school children will put up a cultural show at the inaugural session to enthuse spectators. Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (Dindigul-IV) Limited has advised its bus crew to halt all buses at the district stadium for the convenience of spectators.

Private buses would be operated to stadium from schools and colleges to enable students to attend the matches.

Basic amenities arranged

Water and basic amenities have also been provided at the stadium.

Dindigul Municipality has taken the responsibility to supply protected drinking water.

Tamil Nadu will take on Jammu Kashmir under Group B match on the first day. Finals would be held on December 7. In 2006 event, Tamil Nadu finished runners up in the finals against Manipur in Pondicherry.
