UPTU raises cut-off marks to 45 per cent

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Technical University has fixed 45 per cent marks in class XII as the cut-off to appear for the joint entrance examination (JEE) for entrance to its 289 affiliated engineering colleges with a view to check falling standards. It has also partially withdrawn the 15 per cent management quota for 3 years due to complaints of exploitation by private colleges for capitation fees, as a result of which the cut-offs would now be 60 per cent, 55 per cent and 50 per cent. General and OBC students appearing for the UP State Engineering Examinations for various disciplines would be required to score 45 per cent marks while SC and ST students would get a relaxation of 5 per cent, UPTU sources said here. They said the university took a strong view of complaints of exploitation and a TV news channel sting operation last year in 11 private engineering colleges, especially in Noida and Greater Noida.

A committee was then set up on the directives of the Governor and it recommended withdrawing for three years, the entire 15 per cent management quota of two colleges, 10 per cent quota of 5 institutes and 5 per cent of 4institutes, they said.- PTI
