This Day That Age
The Prime Minister Mr. Nehru has called upon the scientists to keep in “intimate touch” with the actual requirements of the country. In a speech delivered at a conference of the Directors of National Laboratories, held in New Delhi over the week-end and made available on November 19, Mr. Nehru said that India’s resources in coal and hydroelectric power were limited. They had given thought to such problems and the Government had been laying stress on scientific and industrial research. The Prime Minister agreed with Prof. M.S. Thacker, Director of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, that scientific work should not be “starved” because of financial difficulties or foreign exchange difficulties. Mr. Nehru said: “We are at present facing a number of difficulties and we have to try our utmost to overcome them.”
