Public-private route for U.P infrastructure
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Tuesday said her government would partner with the private sector to develop infrastructure.
Constrained by limited resources at its disposal, the government could not take up infrastructure works comprehensively.
Hence the decision to invite proposals for new projects from private investors under the public-private partnership policy. In the PPP route for infrastructure development, the government would play facilitator, Ms. Mayawati told a press conference at Pragati Maidan here where the India International Trade Fair observed “U.P. Day.”
Topping her agenda is construction of an eight-lane Taj Expressway from Greater Noida, on the outskirts of the capital, to Agra.
Another ambitious project, the 1,000-km Ganga Expressway up to Ballia in the east has already been sanctioned in principle.
“This multipurpose link will connect the big cities of the State. We will develop it with private investment. It will ensure development of backward areas on the left side of the Ganga and also check floods,” she said.
