The cars will be priced in the range of Rs. 52 lakh and Rs. 1.40 crore The Cayenne hybrid will be launched globally by late 2009
MAJESTIC SEDAN: Deesch Papke (left), Managing Director, Porsche, West Asia and Africa, and Ashish Chordia, CEO, Precision Cars, with the Porsche, the Carrera GT, at the inauguration of the company’s exclusive showroom in Mumbai on Tuesday. MUMBAI: German luxury car maker Porsche on Tuesday announced plans to expand its presence in India. While its range of luxury cars — the 911 range, the Cayman, the luxury sports utility vehicle (SUVE) Cayenne and the Boxster — will continue to be imported, the company, which inaugurated its $2-million showroom in south Mumbai, will be opening similar exclusive showrooms in Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai in 2008. It also plans to open a facility in the north of Mumbai in 2009. The luxury vehicles will be priced model-wise in the range of Rs. 52 lakh to Rs. 1.40 crore. Mohammed Rehman, After Sales Manager (Middle East and Africa), Porsche, said, “we will be launching the Porsche Supreme 911 GT2 early next year as also the 4.8-litre Cayenne GTS. The Cayenne hybrid will be launched globally by late 2009 and will be launched here in 2010.” Mr. Rehman said India was an extremely important emerging market for Porsche. While the luxury car segment here was still in its infancy, the future potential was enormous. Therefore, Porsche had given a high priority to develop the market for the brand, with emphasis on establishing the right infrastructure for customers. For Porsche, the next major sales leap would be with the launch of the coupe ‘Panamera’ in late 2009 and this luxurious four-door Grand Turismo was expected to match the taste of exclusive Indian customers. At present, the Porsche Cayenne model range is the Porsche’s best selling model in India and has a major share in the overall Luxury SUV market. The company feels indications are there that this trend is set to continue. Porsche also expects to maintain the lead role in the sports car segment, which it already dominates with the Boxster, the Cayman and the 911 range.
