BANGALORE: The arena of inspiration, The Hindu Young World Fest 2007, is all set for a rocking opening at the Mangala and Shashwathi Auditorium, NMKRV College, Jayanagar 3rd Block on Wednesday. The inaugural function of the three-day event will be held at 10 a.m. with actor and anchor A. Sreemathi as chief guest. The fest will open with the preliminary rounds of the group dance and the group music competition on November 21 and November 22, and will culminate with the prize distribution ceremony on November 23. The event is open to students from schools that are part of The Hindu’s NIE programme. Billed as the “most eagerly looked forward to event” for schoolchildren, the annual event is expected to attract over 5,000 students from 200 schools and will provide a platform for them to display their talents. Students of various age groups will participate in several competitions, and the stage is set for them to express themselves through music, dance and, of course, words. The winners will receive trophies and certificates.. The event is sponsored by Canara Bank. The competitions will be judged by Ramu Kanagal, Bharathi Venugopal, Rama Venugopal, Tripti Bhupen Poornima Gururaj and P. Praveen Kumar (group dance - Indian classical); Sneha Nandagopal and Soundarya Srivatsa (group dance - Indian folk); Ganesh V., Anil Kumar B.R., Prithvi and Ree Diwan (group dance - western); Shona D’Sa Saldanha and Kashyap (group dance - Indian popular/film); Soleman, Laxman, Harish and Ashwini (group music - Indian popular/film and group music - western); Kanchana. S. Sriranjani, Narasimha Murthy and Kanchana Shruthi Ranjani (group music - Indian light); R. Raghu Rao (group music - Indian classical); Lata Sharma and A.C. Gurumurthy (ceramic tile painting); Suneeta Prabhuswamy, Geetha Pai and Jayanthi Srinivas (garland making); Shridhara S., and Prabhu Varma (cartooning); Shyla Prasad and B.N. Chondamma (collage); and Shyamala Ganesh and Sheema Chanchani (flower arrangement).
