MADURAI: Shriram Ilakkiya Kazhagam, a wing of the financial service provider Shriram Group, has invited nominations for its ‘Aram’ awards. The award is given every year to an outstanding person who leads a life as per the tenets of ‘Tirukkural,’ according to a press release issued here. The award carries a cash prize of Rs.1 lakh and a citation. A three-member advisory committee, comprising Avvai Natarajan, former Vice-Chancellor of Tamil University; G. Ranga Rao and A.M. Swaminathan, retired Indian Administrative Service officials, has been formed with Director of Shriram Group, R. Kannan, as convenor. The nominee need not necessarily be a research scholar in Tirukkural, or a Tamilian and need not even be domiciled in Tamil Nadu. There is no bar on age. The nominee may be a person attached to a philanthropic organisation. The person must be an Indian and living in India at present. No one can nominate himself. Past recipientsPast recipients of the award include the founder of Aravind Eye Hospitals, G. Venkataswamy, and Kousalya Devi, managing trustee of Gandhigram Trust. The last date for receipt of nominations is December 15. Those who wish to recommend a person could send details about the nominee and the person’s contribution in no more than two pages to Shriram Ilakkiya Kazhagam, Greams Dugar, Fifth Floor, 149 Greams Road, Chennai – 600 006.
