Clearing of accumulated stocks at Adilabad market yard
|
ADILABAD: Cotton purchase at Adilabad agriculture market committee yards will be suspended for a week starting Tuesday so as to facilitate clearing of the accumulated stocks of cotton by processing it. Traders and owners of processing units had urged for such a break in the activity as huge quantities of cotton lay stock piled within their compounds and more purchases would only have added to the stocks.
When the market opened on Monday, the price of cotton was Rs. 2,050 per quintal, a decrease of Rs. 40 per quintal on Saturday’s price. When farmers protested the decrease, traders expressed helplessness to offer a better price on the grounds that it will not be viable to them.
As they sought a week’s time for clearance of the accumulated stocks, farmers agreed and as such Adilabad Tahsildar Ghousuddin made an announcement that purchase operations will start on November 26.
