NEW DELHI: London Mayor Ken Livingstone, now here on a visit, travelled on the Delhi Metro railway network on Tuesday. Accompanied by the Managing Director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, E. Sreedharan, the visiting dignitary travelled from Central Secretariat to Rajiv Chowk, better known as Connaught Place.

“Mr. Livingstone was very impressed with the Delhi Metro and said he would like to build several such systems in the city of London,” said a DMRC official later in the day.

“Remarkable project”

The Commissioner of London Transport, Peter Hendy, who was also present during the visit, described the Delhi Metro as an extremely remarkable project, taking note of the fact that the DMRC is building about 120 km of the rail network in just three years.

Dr. Sreedharan presented a photograph taken during the visit of Prince Charles here in October 2003 to Mr. Livingstone as a souvenir.
