Party to urge Governor to annul decisions taken by Yeddyurappa Ministry Formation of another coalition government with the Janata Dal (Secular) ruled out BANGALORE: With the fall of the first government of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in South India, the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee is planning to launch its Statewide Jana Jagruti campaign against the BJP and the Janata Dal (Secular) in the last week of November or the first week of December. KPCC President M. Mallikarjun Kharge told The Hindu that the party stand that the two parties could not provide a stable government had been vindicated. The Congress, which had decided to extend its programme of agitation to district headquarters, would now be converted into a “Jana Jagruti” movement, he said. ‘People disillusioned’Mr. Kharge said the people of the State had become disillusioned with the misrule of the two parties in the last 21 months and the Congress workers had been asked to educate voters in the districts and taluks about the damage done to the interests of the people and the State. Reiterating the Congress charge that Mr. Yeddyurappa, who assumed power without bothering to ascertain whether he would get the support of the Janata Dal (Secular), took decisions in the Cabinet before the floor test, which was ethically wrong. He said the party would approach Governor Rameshwar Thakur to annul all major decisions such as construction of airports in Gulbarga and Shimoga approved at the Cabinet meeting as it did not have the full complement of the ministers. There was no question of forming a government with anybody’s support. Neither was the Congress interested in accepting any alliance with any party, which had lost credibility in the State. Blaming the two parties for the mess created in administration and in the minds of the people, Mr. Kharge said it took a long time to cleanse it. Welcoming the Union Cabinet’s decision to impose President`s rule in the State, Mr. Kharge said the Congress had a good chance of coming back to power on its own. ComparisonAsked whether the awareness programme would be aggressive, he said there was no need for such a course. The party workers would tell the people to compare the pro-people decisions and programmes of the Congress such as land reforms, giving land to landless Dalits and other weaker sections, nearly 30 per cent reservation for the other backward classes and reservation in promotions to the Dalits with the rampant corruption and the communal agenda of the coalition partners, respectively. All these programmes, he said, had benefited lakhs of families in the State over the decades.
