Punjab scores four wins

Bangalore: Defending champion Punjab notched up four victories in Pool ‘A’ of the 36th National senior handball championship for men at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium here on Tuesday.

Punjab defeated Goa 34-14 and then scripted an 18-14 win over Pondicherry. Later it beat Chandigarh 34-28 and followed it up with a 33-10 victory over Bihar.

Host Karnataka prevailed over the Bhilai-based National Handball Academy 24-17 after leading 12-10 at half-time.

The match was interrupted as fading light forced the organisers to shift the match to indoor courts during the second-half with 11 minutes of play remaining. Leading 19-12 at that juncture, Karnataka sailed smooth to win the match.

Captain Premnath and L. Amara chipped in with six points for Karnataka.
