120 scientists from different States participating; 140 papers being presented TIRUPATI: About 120 scientists from different States have converged here for the XXII annual session of the Indian Association of Veterinary Anatomists (IAVA) to deliberate on a range of issues concerning teaching, research, administration and so on during the three-day meet. In all, about 140 research papers also would be presented in the various scientific sessions to be held in connection with the national symposium being organised on the occasion on the theme ‘Recent Advances in Anatomy of the Domestic Animals with special reference to Developmental Anatomy’. The meet was formally inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor of the Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University P. Thangaraju. The meeting noted that considering the importance of vegterinary science, seven States have already set up exclusive Veterinary universities while the government of Haryana was in the process of following through having constituted a core group of experts to work out the modalities in this respect. Dr. S.K. Nagpal, president of the IAVA and Dean, College of Veterinary Sciences, Hissar in his address has underscored the importance of ‘grass anatomy’ and said the faculty members were increasingly feeling that research productivity was being over-emphasised while teaching contributions were minimised in the faculty recruitment. Dr. Manmohan Singh, IAS, Sathyanarayana Reddy, Associate Dean and others participated.
