Gulbarga
Training will be given in acting, lighting, make-up and stage-setting by experts GULBARGA: A month-long divisional-level training camp on various aspects of theatre for artistes organised by the Dharwad unit of Rangayana will begin from December 3 at the open air auditorium on the premises of Gulbarga University. B. Gangadharswamy, director of the Dharwad unit of Rangayana, told presspersons here on Wednesday that this was the first time that such a camp was being held outside Rangayana’s headquarters in Mysore. He said artistes from Bellary, Gulbarga, Raichur, Bidar and Koppal would be selected and training imparted in acting, lighting, stage-setting and make-up by experts, headed by the former director of Rangayana and well- known theatre artiste C. Basavalingaiah, who would be the director of the camp. Resource personsResource persons from different parts of the State, including those who had undergone training at Rangayana, would impart basic training to the artistes. Mr. Gangadharswamy said that preference would be given to women and equal opportunity would be given to artistes from all districts. SelectionHe said artistes would be selected for the training by experts on the first day of the camp. Interested persons should either send in their applications to Rangayana in Dharwad or attend the interview on December 3. Drama productionMr. Gangadharswamy said that the artistes, who would be selected to participate in the camp, would have to produce a drama of their choice, which would be staged on the final day of the camp. It would also be staged at Rangayana in Dharwad and Mysore later. Mr. Gangadharswamy said that originally the State Government decided open branches of Rangayana at five centres, including Gulbarga, when Ramakrishna Hegde was the Chief Minister. However, it did not happen. After persistent demands, the State Government decided to establish a branch of Rangayana in Dharwad, a couple of years ago. ProposalHe said that the proposal for establishing Rangayana in Gulbarga was pending with the Government. The Dharwad unit of Rangayana mainly deals with children’s drama and training for child artistes. It has been sanctioned a Swedish-aided project for honing the skills of children in Dharwad and the neighbouring districts of Haveri and Bagalkot, Mr. Gangadharswamy added.
