Two lakh line capacity main switching centre commissioned

BSNL customers can dial 1500 for any queries

Landline meter reading facility to be introduced soon

DAVANGERE: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd., (BSNL) will provide telephone connections on demand in all villages and remote places of Davangere and Chitradurga districts, as the organisation has commissioned a two lakh line capacity Main Switching Centre (MSC) comprising Code Division Multiplex Access (CDMA) and Wireless Local Area Loop (WLL) technologies.

Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday, in-charge General Manager of the district telecom circle S. Radhakrishnan and Deputy General Manager Vishnumurthy Bhat said that multiple broadband connections had been installed in Davangere, Harihar, Chitradurga, Challakere and were being given there on demand. BSNL would also provide broadband connections in other taluks of the district on demand.

Mobile towers

Elaborating on the recent initiatives of the department, Mr. Radhakrishnan said that new mobile towers had been installed at Mayakonda, Tholahunse, Angodu and Kondajji and 58 more mobile BTS (Base Terminal Stations) would be installed at various places in the district to provide seamless mobile connectivity to customers. He discussed the various schemes offered by the department to its customers and said that a 10-month rent plan for landlines with broadband facility had been introduced at a charge of Rs. 500 a month with 175 free calls and unlimited downloading facility at night.

Loyalty bonus

Loyalty bonus in terms of free calls would be offered to landline customers whose connections were five years old. A similar option would be available for BSNL mobile services users after completion of three years.

Website

Similarly, a large number of customer care initiatives had been introduced such as setting up of toll free line 1500 to cater to customers queries. A new website www.portal.bsnl.in has been created for booking new services and complaints.

A landline meter reading facility would soon be introduced, for which people could dial 1962. Through this service customers can get to know the charges levied for each telephone call they make.

Though the demand for BSNL landline telephones had come down by 20 per cent in urban areas in the district following introduction of mobile telephone services, its landline phones were still in demand in rural areas, the General Manager said.
