Steps to fill vacancies in Tuticorin police: SP

R. Vimal Kumar

Surplus strength in Armed Reserve to be posted in stations

Tuticorin: The Superintendent of Police, Deepak Motibhai Damor, said that steps were being taken to fill all the vacancies existed in the district police, totalling about 600, at the earliest.

Speaking to The Hindu here on Wednesday, he said “as a first step, we are going to induct 267 police constables, presently working at various battalions outside the district, into the district police force before November 30.”

These men would be posted at the Armed Reserve (AR) unit functioning in the district headquarters.

“The move would thus facilitate us to shift some of the senior men currently posted in the Armed Reserve unit to the police stations without disturbing the total sanctioned strength of AR unit, which was always maintained at the optimum,” he said.

The surplus strength regrouped from the AR would be allocated to various stations purely on a priority basis.

The move would help to beef up patrols and strengthen crime detection.

Traffic movement

Mr. Damor said that additional strength had been allocated to traffic police units functioning at Tuticorin, Tiruchendur and Kovilpatti towns, as part of the efforts to ensure smooth flow of vehicles during peak hours.

He said that five more automatic traffic signals would be established in Tuticorin town shortly.

The Superintendent of Police said that a total of 114 cases were registered across the district on Tuesday alone, during a crack down on violators of motor vehicle and road safety rules.

Of them, 58 cases were booked for not wearing helmets, 11 for using dazzling lights, two for over speeding, four for drunken driving, one for riding bike in triples, and the rest for other type of violations like non possession of valid documents of respective vehicles.
