Unions step up campaign
Correspondent
VIZIANAGARAM: As the countdown began for polling to elect a recognised union in the Waltair Railway Division, the two main contenders – the Shramik Congress (affiliated to the NFIR) and the Shramik Union (affiliated to the AIRF) of East Coast Railways – are vying with each other to woo Class III and IV employees (voters).
The campaigning veering round the railway station and railway residential areas is undoubtedly akin to the one witnessed for Lok Sabha and Assembly polls.
In their attempt to attract voters, the contenders had not taken notice of the code of conduct.
The Divisional Office in Visakhapatnam released a list of dos and don’ts and instructed unions not to disfigure public property.
But, the unions pasted posters, tied banners and erected cut-outs of contesting candidates on platforms, office buildings and other structures of railway station.
Polling would be held on November 26, 27 and 28 in the division.
