Plea to bar wearing of churidar in Guruvayur temple dismissed

Kochi: A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Wednesday dismissed a writ petition seeking a directive to the Guruvayur Devaswom Managing Committee to prohibit entry of churidar-clad women into the Guruvayur temple.

The petition was dismissed by the Bench comprising Justice K.S. Radhakrishnan and Justice T.R.Ramchandran Nair.

The petition filed by Gokul Prasad of Palakkad sought the directive of the court in view of the conclusions of Devaprasnam conducted at the temple.

The petitioner said that the astrologers who conducted the Devaprasnam concluded that churidar-clad women should not be allowed inside the temple.

Marad case trial

Justice R. Basant directed the Kozhikode Special Court trying the Marad massacre case to report about the time needed to complete the trial in the case .

The directive was given while considering a bail petition filed by the two accused in the case.

Vigilance probe

Justice Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan on Wednesday directed the Director, Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau, to inquire into the allegations made by the secretary of the Kumarapuram Ksheerolpadaka Cooperative Society that the administrators of the society and a political party had demanded money for confirming her service.

The judge passed the order on a writ petition filed by the secretary, Princy, challenging her suspension. The court also directed the director to file a short report within one month.

Bail granted

The court granted bail to Mohanan, toddy shop licensee and 12th accused in the Avaneeswaram liquor tragedy case.

Two persons were killed and 15 admitted to hospital following consumption of liquor from the toddy shop at Avaneeswaram in Kollam district.

The public prosecutor submitted that traces of methyl alcohol were found in the blood samples of those who had died in the tragedy.
