Attacks on scribes: panels likely to be revived

KADAPA: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Wednesday assured to issue a G.O. reviving the district-level committees to deal with attacks on journalists.

He directed his personal secretary, P. Subrahmanyam, to pursue the issuance of a G.O. when leaders of the A.P. Union of Working Journalists of the Kadapa district unit submitted a memorandum to him condemning the increase in attacks on scribes in the State. He promised to ask Home Minister K. Jana Reddy to convene a meeting of the State-level committee to deal with attacks on journalists, at Hyderabad soon.

APUWJ district president P. Ramasubba Reddy and others submitted a memorandum condemning threats and attacks on journalists at Rajahmundry and Nampally in Nalgonda district by Congressmen and at Adilabad by TDP members. He also assured to institute inquiries into the incidents.
