Keshub Mahindra CHENNAI: B Ramalinga Raju, Chairman and Founder, Satyam Computer Services, has been named the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the year 2007 by a jury chaired by K. V. Kamath, Managing Director and CEO, ICICI Bank. Mr. Raju will now represent India at the Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur of the Year Award in Monte Carlo, Monaco, in May 2008. The lifetime achievement award is given to Keshub Mahindra, the patriarch of the Mahindra Group.
B. Ramalinga Raju The jury for the awards this year considered two new award categories, namely, social entrepreneurship and infrastructure and construction with a view to recognising those exemplary individuals who are making a contribution towards these vital sectors of the economy. Ela Ramesh Bhatt, Founder and General Secretary, Self-Employed Women’s Association (SEWA), gets the social entrepreneurship award. Entrepreneur of the year infrastructure & construction award goes to Atul Punj, Chairman and Managing Director, Punj Lloyd. Sajjan Jindal, Chairman and Managing Director, JSW Steel, is the winner in the manufacturing category. The award for the start-up entrepreneur of the year is given to Manoj Kumar Upadhyay, Founder and Managing Director, Acme Tele Power. The services category award goes to Shiv Nadar, Chairman and Chief Strategy Officer, HCL Enterprises. Raghav Bahl, Managing Director, Network 18, is named the business transformation entrepreneur of the year. The award for the manager entrepreneur of the year is given to Shikha Sharma, Managing Director and CEO, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance. The healthcare and life sciences award is given to Cyrus Poonawalla, Chairman and Managing Director, Serum Institute of India. Rajiv Memani, Country Managing Partner, Ernst & Young, said in a release that “the Entrepreneur of the Year Award is an unparalleled global programme conducted in over 40 nations around the world. The awards are felicitated in various categories to recognise entrepreneurs who have excelled in their field and stimulated economic growth and progress.”
