Fr. Raniero HYDERABAD: Fr. Raniero Cantalamessa, preacher to Pope Benedict XVI and his confessor too, will be in town for the Unity in the Holy Spirit festival, scheduled to be held at various venues in Secunderabad from November 23 to 25. Appointed by late Pope John Paul II as Preacher to the Papal Household in 1980, he has been regularly preaching in the presence of the Pope, cardinals, bishops, general superiors of religious orders and prelates of the Roman Curia. Sought after speakerA much sought after speaker, he runs a weekly programme on RAI, Italy’s state television on Sunday Gospel readings. A member of the Catholic delegation for dialogue with Pentecostal churches for the last 10 years, he is also a professor emeritus in systematic theology and a charismatic Catholic leader. A Franciscan Capuchin priest, he holds doctorates in divinity and classical literature. A former professor of history of ancient Christianity and Director of the Department of Religious Sciences at the Catholic University of Milan, he will be here as part of the ecumenical efforts at unity among Christian churches, conducting various programmes at St. Mary’s High School, Gymkhana Grounds and St. Mary’s Church in Secunderabad.
