‘Padayatra’ against BBMP’s Sakrama on December 1
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: Demanding that the high rates under the Sakrama scheme be reduced and the December 14 deadline be withdrawn, representatives of more than 100 residents’ welfare associations will take out a “padayatra” from Whitefield to Raj Bhavan on December 1.
The protesters under the aegis of Lok Paritran will march from Whitefield and walk via Pai Layout, Kaggadasapura, G.M. Palya, BEML Entrance, Tippasandra, CMH road, Cambridge Road and Ulsoor to reach Raj Bhavan. B.T. Naganna of Lok Paritran told The Hindu that the protestors will submit a memorandum to Governor Rameshwar Thakur urging for the withdrawal of the deadline, reduction in the penalty rates and instalment facility for payment of the penalty under the regularisation scheme. “We are also staging a demonstration in front of Mahatma Gandhi statue on November 24 to draw the attention of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the Governor about the plight of people, who have to pay a penalty of lakhs of rupees,” he said.
