Follow safety norms or face closure: Collector
Staff Reporter
Sangareddy: Medak District Collector B. Venkatesam has warned all major and mid sized industries in the district to strictly adhere to safety norms or to face closure. Addressing a preparatory meeting of the district crisis management group with the representatives of industries, pollution control board and department of factories on Wednesday at the Zilla Parishad conference hall, the Collector wanted them to fax a ten point compliance letter to him by the evening of Friday.
The Collector expressing concern over the spurt in accidents in the chemical industries during last month introduced a surprise check programme with immediate effect to grade the industries and public offices on the spot into red, green and white categories. Even though the district has 33 industries that come under the A category being the most hazardous and another 89 under the B category, a mutual agreement exist only between the two public sector industries the BHEL and the BDL.
Representatives of few industries that have experienced mishap in the recent times urged the district administration to provide better approach roads and fire fighting equipment.
