CHAMARAJANAGAR: The district unit of Veerashaiva Mahasabha and the district unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)have called for “Chamarajanagar bandh” on Thursday in protest against the decision of Janata Dal (Secular) president H.D. Deve Gowda and former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy to withdraw support to the BJP-led Government. Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, president of the district unit of the mahasabha Nagarajappa criticised Mr. Deve Gowda and Mr. Kumaraswamy for not supporting the BJP after promising unconditional support. He said the people would teach them a lesson in the next elections. Members of the mahasabha observed a black day on the premises of Siddamalleshwara Math here. SupportLeaders of the district unit of the BJP said various organisations and hotel and shop owners would support “Chamarajanagar bandh” on Thursday. Meanwhile, president of the district youth wing of the Janata Dal (S) Alur Mallu and his followers tendered resignation in protest against the action of Mr. Deve Gowda and Mr. Kumaraswamy. ProcessionWorkers of the BJP took out a procession in Gundlupet on Wednesday in protest against the decision of Mr. Deve Gowda to withdraw support to the Yediyurappa-led Government. They burnt the effigy of Mr. Deve Gowda and Mr. Kumaraswamy. Superintendent of Police Srikantappa said that 350 policemen had been deployed in the city to ensure peace during the bandh.
