IN A SHAMBLES: A portion of a building collapsed on the NIMHANS campus, which caused two deaths, in Bangalore on Wednesday.
BANGALORE: Two persons were killed on the spot after an old abandoned building on NIMHANS campus collapsed on them around 4.45 p.m. on Wednesday.
The dead were identified as Prakash (35), a carpenter, and Babu (40), a plumber, both employees of NIMHANS, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Alok Kumar said.
The building, which earlier housed the NIMHANS staff quarters, was abandoned for the past two years and the authorities had planned to demolish it. The police were not sure why the two had gone inside the unused building located near the main gate of NIMHANS, Mr. Alok Kumar told The Hindu.
Ruling out additional causalities or injuries to others, Mr. Alok Kumar said the police searched the building collapse site and no one was found trapped under the rubble. The Siddapura police have registered a case.
