Software engineer mugged in city Crime notes

BANGALORE: Armed men waylaid a software engineer and robbed him of gold ornaments, a mobile phone and cash in MICO Layout police station limits on Tuesday. The police said that around 10.30 p.m., three men stopped Srikanth while he was walking on 17th Main, 1st Stage, BTM. They punched him on the face and robbed him of Rs. 300 cash, a gold chain, a bracelet and a mobile phone. On a complaint by Srikanth, who hailed from Andhra Pradesh, the MICO Layout police have registered a case.

Killed in accident

A 12-year-old boy, a Class VII student, was killed after he was run over by an earthmover in K.R. Puram traffic police station limits on Tuesday night. The police said that around 7 p.m., while taking a U-turn at Kundalahalli Colony, the earthmover ran over Shivana Gowda, son of a migrant construction worker from Raichur. The K.R. Puram traffic police have seized the earthmover and are on the lookout for its driver who ran away after the accident.

Suicide

Following alleged harassment by her husband, Shashikala (22) committed suicide by hanging herself at her house in Srigandhanagar in Rajagopalanagar police station limits on Tuesday.

The police said Shashikala had married Ravi, an electrician, 18 months ago. She left a 10-page note explaining how her husband used to torture her, the police said. The Rajagopalanagar police have registered a case.

Cars damaged

Two cars were damaged in a fire at a Canara Bank manager’s house in Hanumanthanagar in the early hours of Wednesday. The police said the incident took place around 1 a.m. at V.S. Shet’s house on 6th Cross, Hanumantha-nagar. A car belonging to Mr. Shet’s tenant, which was parked in front of the house, caught fire and later the blaze spread to the banker’s car. The Hanumanthanagar police, who have registered a case, said they were yet to ascertain whether it was an accident or a case of mischief.

In another incident, a van caught fire following a collision with a motorcycle on T. Mariyappa Road in Wilson Garden traffic police station limits around 9 p.m. on Tuesday. The police said the van driver Shabbir Ahmed escaped unhurt. The van was gutted.
