HYDERABAD: TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao has demanded the resignation of Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Laxmaiah as the CAG had indicted the State Government for extending undue favour to contractors in irrigation projects, particularly in Telangana. Talking to reporters here on Wednesday, Mr. Rao also demanded that the Minister tender an apology to the people of Telangana. He said the CAG report which was tabled in the Assembly on Tuesday vindicated TRS’ stand that the ‘Jala Yagnam’ programme of the Government was a farce. They helped Congress leaders pocket public money. The CAG report had rightly documented the irregularities. He also said the nine year TDP regime was no exception to amassing of wealth by leaders. However, the Congress and TDP now played the blame game on each other. Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had demanded the resignation of his predecessor N. Chandrababu Naidu when the CAG released a similar report against the latter. Will Dr. Reddy submit his resignation?, he questioned Mr. Rao criticised Mr. Ponnala for the overlapping of the ayacut of Devadula project with the Flood Flow Canal as pointed out by CAG. In the light of the CAG findings, Mr. Rao called upon people to intensify the agitation for separate Telangana. He also said the TRS withdrew its programme to launch an agitation against the salons proposed by Reliance since the company had backed out on the project. However, a demonstration against Reliance Fresh outlets would be held in Warangal on Friday.
