CPI(M) backs medicos’ protest

CHENNAI: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has expressed its support to the medicos’ protest. Medicos and house surgeons of all government colleges have been protesting the extension of the MBBS course with a year’s compulsory rural service.
In a statement, N.Varadarajan, State secretary, CPI (M), said while the move to get medical professionals to work in rural areas was welcome, extending the MBBS course of study by another year was not the right way of going about it.
Students held a protest demonstration on Monday and followed it up with a two-day relay fast in their respective colleges all over the State. On Wednesday evening, student representatives said they had decided to extend the fast by another day.
