Families disappointed

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: It was yet another disappointing day on Wednesday for families of the Uphaar fire tragedy victims as the sentencing in the case was postponed to Thursday.

Visibly agitated at the delay, the Association of Victims of Uphaar Tragedy convenor Neelam Krishnamoorthy said: “The lawyers of the accused are trying to prolong the process of justice using delay tactics. We have no choice but to bear this further delay just like we have been doing for the past 10 years.”

The victims were relieved after the verdict was pronounced on Tuesday and were looking forward to the quantum of the sentence to assess whether they had achieved justice after a long wait of over a decade since the tragedy struck on June 13, 1997.
