Radio Mirchi to go on air from today Big FM will start operation from Monday MANGALORE: Mangaloreans will soon get FM radio channels to entertain them, possibly round-the-clock. Within a week, two FM channels — both hot favourites of listeners in Bangalore — will start their operation in the city, FM Project Manager attached to Mangalore All India Radio (AIR) Paremmal Achuthan told The Hindu. The channels would have coverage of 40-km radius from the AIR tower near Kadri Park here. The signals would be strong in the first 25-km radius and weaker beyond that, Mr. Achuthan said. While Radio Mirchi (frequency 98.3), run by Entertainment Network India Limited, is expected to go on air by 5 p.m. on Friday, Big FM (92.7) of Adlabs Films Limited is likely to go on air from Monday. Another FM channel, S FM (93.5) of Sun Network will soon hit the city. Century FM (94.3) of Radio Mid-Daywest (India) Private Limited is expected to set shop here a little later. Mr. Achuthan said Radio Mirchi and Big FM were given permission to go on air over a week ago. The two channels are on air round-the-clock in Bangalore, he added. Following the recent decision of the Government to prevent unnecessary erection of transmission towers in and around cities, all the four channels will use the existing 100-metre tall AIR tower near Kadri Park to transmit the signals. The FM channels are expected to bring about a lifestyle change for Mangaloreans as has been the case in Bangalore.
