Rock of Ages, a Kochi-based musical group, will hold its second major performance on Saturday evening at the Fine Arts Hall in Kochi. The group of professional singers, mostly young men and women, was formed in 2004 under the leadership of Jerry Amaldev, music director. They held their first major performance about a year ago in the city. Among the objectives of Rock of Ages is to experiment with all kinds of music streams in the world, breaking regional and linguistic barriers, and stretch the boundaries of excellence in community music. Last year, the group took upon itself the task of helping fund the studies of two financially backward students of the RLV College of Music, Thripunithura. Apart from English and Malayalam songs, there will be a song each in German and Latin. A black spiritual song and Christmas songs too will be sung. An unusual British composition, The Train, and some western-type art music too will be rendered, Mr. Amaldev says. The group is at present busy honing music skills at training sessions. On Saturday, there will be over two hours of choral music by the 18-member group, with the support of eight persons on instruments. The group includes employees, businessmen and homemakers. Entry to the venue is with admit cards. The proceeds of the show will be used to help financially backward youth who have a passion for music. For details, call 98460 66688. John L. Paul
