Anbumani Ramadoss The visit of Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss to the capital this weekend seems to be stirring things up in the Health Department. Mr. Ramadoss has a slew of functions as well as meetings lined up here, including the inaugurations of the hi-tech MRI scan machine at Regional Cancer Centre and the new building of State Health and Family Welfare Institute and the foundation stone-la ying of the Super Specialty block of the Medical College Hospital under the Rs.100-crore Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana. The Medical College Hospital campus is being spruced up and the main arterial road to the campus, which has remained pot-hole ridden till date, got tarred overnight. Interestingly, serious efforts are afoot in the department now to somehow settle the stir of government doctors, which has crossed over 50 days. The doctors’ strike could pose an embarrassment for the government during the high-profile visit of Mr. Ramadoss, especially if the media choose to bring it up, it is felt. C. Maya
