Applications being processed in less than 10 days Pendency of applications touches zero mark MALAPPURAM: Applicants who do not get their passports within 35 days after submitting their applications should contact the passport officer either through fax, e-mail or through conventional mail. In case of applicants who do not require police verification, they should contact the passport officer after 20 days. Passport officer K. Muraleedharan said here on Wednesday that the Malappuram Passport Office achieved a record delivery period of 35 days. Applications for fresh passports were being processed in less than 10 days after the receipt of the police verification report, he said. The pendency of passport applicants at the Malappuram Passport Office touched the zero mark. Out of the 140,108 applications received in a year till August 31, 2007, as many as 138,196 passports were issued, he said. Mr. Muraleedharan conducted a passport adalat for the applicants of Malappuram and Palakkad districts here on Wednesday. As many as 61 passports were issued at the adalat, where 111 cases came up for hearing. Applications submitted before August 31, 2007, and were pending owing to different factors were considered at the adalat. Mr. Muraleedharan said that the failure of applicants in providing complete and correct information was the main reason for the pendency of files. He requested the applicants to furnish correct information in the form without suppressing any details about their personal particulars as well as previous passports and applications. He congratulated his staff for working overtime to clear pending files. There was no addition to the staff strength of five officers and 42 assistants after the passport office started functioning in August 2006. The sanctioned strength of the office was 14 officers and 59 staff. A record number of 21,087 passports were issued in August this year. Mr. Muraleedharan cautioned passport applicants not to get misguided by agents and the people outside the passport office. He said applicants should approach the officers and get their doubts clarified. He said people should approach without taking any token the enquiry and miscellaneous service counters functioning on working days from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.
