ZP accepts plan to develop rural roads

Members of standing committees named

CHIKMAGALUR: The Chikmagalur Zilla Panchayat, at a special meeting here on Wednesday, decided to unanimously accept the 12th Plan and the Chief Minister’s action plan for development of rural roads.

Stating that a decision on this subject had been postponed many times,H.M. Satish, panchayat member, asked whether the proposal to call for package tenders was still in force.

Assurance

Panchayat vice-president P.J. Antony told the meeting that the Secretary to the Department of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj had given him an assurance that the package tender system would be withdrawn and the action plan could be approved. S.N. Ramaswamy, panchayat member, said that further delay in approving the action plan would result in funds being withdrawn.

The members said that the list of works submitted by them should be approved.

K. Sundar Naik, Chief Executive Officer, suggested that funds earmarked for road repairs should be approved and a fresh list submitted to the Government.

Plan approved

The panchayat approved the Rs. 16.52-crore action plan, which included Rs. 12.05 crore under the 12th Plan.

Standing Committee for Finance, Accounts and Planning: Chandramma Manjunath (president), K.M. Kemparaj, M. Bhagwan, C. Radha, Belli Prakash, Farhat Banu and Girijamma.

General Standing Committee: P.J. Antony (president), H.C. Savitha, Ramesh, H.M. Satish, T.J. Ravikumar, M.M. Kariappa, Ashalatha D. Jain and L.R. Shanthaveerappa.

Standing Committee for Social Justice: B.J. Bharati Srinivas Gowda (president), K.R. Satish, K. Manjula Raghumurthy, K.R. Dhruvakumar, S.N. Ramaswamy, K.P. Venkatesh and B.L. Sandeep.

Standing Committee for Health and Education: G.N. Siddaramappa (president), B.N. Savithramma Chandrappa, Jyoti Hemashekar, V.J. Shanmukha Bhovi, Saathi Sundaresh, M.C. Hoovappa and B. Shivashankar.

Standing Committee for Agriculture and Industries: K.T. Manjunath (president), Gayathri Shanthegowda, Radha Sundaresh, Shuba Raju, K.R. Satish, H.R. Krishnamurthy and N.D. Thimme Gowda.
