DSC counselling held peacefully

Correspondent

Teachers’ unions allege irregularities in the selection process

Administration flayed for delaying counselling

Mistakes pointed out in merit list

VIZIANAGARAM: Amid allegations of injustice meted out to a few reserved and women rankers, counselling for candidates selected in DSC-2006 (school assistants, language pundits and PETs) was conducted peacefully at the Collectorate here on Thursday. After scrutiny of certificates of 126 candidates out of 129 at the DEO’s Office the rankers were issued posting orders.

Regarding filling up of remaining three posts - two school assistants (Telugu) and one ex-serviceman (social studies) the in-charge District Educational Officer A. Prabhakar Rao said that the Director was being asked to clarify on the objections raised by the teachers’ unions.

While N. Suresh, president of A.P. Scheduled Tribe Employees’ Association alleged irregularities in the selection process of tribals, the DEO in-charge said that the ST candidates must have failed to enclose caste certificates issued by tehsildars.

Later, an aggrieved tribal candidate J. Kasanna refuted the statement of the DEO in-charge and showed the original affidavit issued on June 10, 2002 to reporters by the G.L. Puram tehsildar.

Criticising the administration for delaying counselling, D. Ramu, general secretary of United Teachers Federation, pointed out mistakes in the merit list and also said that when considered zonal seniority for promotions in future the newly appointed teachers in the district would automatically become juniors to their counterparts in Srikakulam and Visakhapatnam who joined on Wednesday after the counselling conducted simultaneously on November 19.

Additional Director (School Education) C.A.V. Prasad was present as observer.
