Tumours weighing 29 kg removed

BERHAMPUR: Ovarian tumours weighing around 29 kg were removed at the MKCG medical college hospital on Thursday. Gynaecology Department Associate Professor Arati Patnaik removed the tumours of Manju Nayak through an operation of around four hours. Ms. Patnaik said one tumour weighed 27 kg. and 800 grams.

The tumour of her other ovary was of the size of a small ball. Specimens of the tumour have been sent for biopsy to ascertain the cause of such a huge tumour. She said the patient was lucky as the tumour had not affected any of her other internal organs. According to sources it is the largest ovarian tumour removed at the medical college.

“The tumour had made her too anaemic and s she was unable to work for her livelihood. She had taken shelter at Jagateswar temple at Indrakshi village.”
