Panel visits Krishnagiri

Krishnagiri: The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Committee on Estimates examined the progress of development works taken up in the district by the departments of horticulture, agriculture, public works, adi dravidar welfare and higher education here on Thursday. The committee headed by its chairman V. Mullaivendhan, and members C. Shanmugavelu, Ram Subburam and S. P. Jayaraman assessed whether money was laid out within the limits of the policy implied in the estimates of the projects.

Maternity block

The committee inspected the progress of construction of maternity block, outpatient ward and additional buildings in the Krishnagiri Government Hospital. They interacted with patients in the hospital and enquired whether they paid any fees for treatment and how they were treated at the hospital.

The committee inspected the construction of the new integrated bus stand in Krishnagiri at Rs.6.87 crore. They asked officials concerned to speed up the works. The team members reviewed the construction of Master Plan complex at Bynapalli, near here, at Rs. 10 crore.

Tissue culture lab

Later, they inspected Growmore Biotech, tissue culture lab at Hosur. They inspected the cultivation of cash crops like tissue culture banana, sugarcane and bamboo. The cultivation of profitable crops should be demonstrated to farmers at the block and district levels. The committee would recommend the State Government to frame a separate policy for tissue culture, they added.

Hostel

The team inspected the Adi-dravidar boys hostel at Mathigiri and Bagalur and verified the admission of students. The team also inspected the Rural Business Process Outsourcing unit cum Call centre at Chanachandiram and Tanflora Floriculture development park at Amudhagondapalli. Collector Santhosh Babu accompanied the team.
