MALAPPURAM: The second Haj flight, carrying 215 passengers for Jeddah, left Calicut International Airport at Karipur three hours behind schedule on Thursday. The delay was due to the late arrival of the plane (A300-B4) from Mumbai. Air India flight AI-2453 left Karipur at 3.40 p.m. Of the pilgrims in the second batch, 122 were women and 93, men. Most of them were from Malappuram district. Kallan Alavikutty, 87, and wife Kunhipathumma, 78, from Oorakam near here, were the oldest couple among the pilgrims. A 150-member pilgrim group from Lakshadweep arrived at Kozhikode on two vessels on Thursday. Fifty-eight of them came on MV Amindivi and 92 on MV Deep Sethu. They will reach the State Haj camp at Karipur on Monday, a day ahead of their flight on Tuesday. From Lakshadweep, 295 pilgrims are going to Mecca under the State Haj Committee this year. Chennithala visits campKerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala visited the Haj Camp at Karipur on Thursday. State Amir of Jama’at-e-Islami T. Arifali gave instructions to the second batch of Hajis.
