‘Powers to make decision vested in TDB president’

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) president C.K. Guptan has said that members of the Board do not have the powers to interfere with administrative affairs.

Mr. Guptan said in a statement here on Thursday that the Devaswom manual notified by the government had specified that all decision-making powers had been vested in the president and that he was the administrative head of the Board. The president is not bound to abide by the decisions of the majority. The Board cannot isolate Devaswom Minister G. Sudhakaran and function without the support of the government. He accused the members of ridiculing the Minister and his private secretary and ignoring the ethics of coalition politics. The members thwarted his attempts to check such tendencies with the support of a section of the Board employees. Mr. Guptan said a disciplined president can function only as per the decisions of the party, the Left Democratic Front, the government and the Minister. Attempts to create differences of opinion between him and the Minister will not attain fruition. Mr. Guptan said that he exercised self-restraint and refrained from correcting the members to avoid an administrative stalemate.
