Driver averts accident to AP Express
Staff Reporter
KAZIPET: A major accident was reportedly averted by an alert driver of the New Delhi-bound AP Express when he realised that the engine was about to delink from the rest of the train near Pendial station on the outskirts of Kazipet junction on Thursday morning.
The engine driver felt there was something amiss when there was a change in the momentum of the train around 8.45 a.m.
The crew stopped the train and set right the coupling between the engine and other bogies.
Snag
It is stated the coupling developed a snag and had it not been corrected on time, it would have resulted in an accident, railway officials said. The correction took about half an hour resulting in delay of all trains on the route.
Sources said the same problem recurred for the express at the Uppal railway station near Jammikunta station in Karimnagar district. However, the railway officials denied the reports that the engine was delinked from the compartments.
