Apt topic: Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court Cyriac Joseph (left) releasing the book authored by Justice H.N. Nagmohan Das in Bangalore on Thursday. BANGALORE: The Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court, Cyriac Joseph, on Thursday commended Justice H.N. Nagmohan Das on writing a book on “Untouchability And The Law” and regretted that even after several decades of independence, the issue of untouchability still existed in the country. The Chief Justice was speaking at a function organised by the Advocates Association of Bangalore and the Kannada Development Authority (KDA) to release the book on the premises of the Vikaleera Bhavan at the District and Sessions Court Complex on Old Post Office Road. The Chief Justice said several social evils, including untouchability, are yet to be eradicated. Laws alone could not tackle these evils, he said and urged the advocates and judges to take the lead in tackling such social issues. Dr. Siddalingaiah, the KDA Chairman, said the book is an outstanding example of deep research and sincere efforts. He said society is in need of such exercises. He said it dealt with several issues relating to untouchability.He said several aspects of social responsibility, social justice and SC/ST laws and the Constitutional obligation of the State to eradicate such social evils had been dealt with by Justice Nagmohan Das. The president of the Advocates Association, D.L. Jagadeesh, said it is time for the advocates to take the lead in eradicating the country of all social evils. He also commended Justice Das for his book. The Association office-bearers, M. Partha, Jayashree G., Uday Kumar and Lokesh Gowda were present. Several advocates and staff of the subordinate courts were present on the occasion.
