Archetypal witness to bifurcation twice

Enduring: The arch at the bus-stand in Ariyalur, with thanksgiving message for restoring the status of the district.
Any stranger crossing the bus-stand in Ariyalur can never miss a glimpse of an arch that proclaims the State Government’s gesture in restoring the district status to the town. The arch, set up soon after the district was bifurcated way back in 2001, has become a landmark in the town, signifying the gratitude of the people of the district.
The thanksgiving slogan disappeared shortly after the district was merged with the Perambalur district in 2002.
The slogan has been restored on the arch, following Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi’s announcement to re-bifurcate the Peramabalur district.
As and when announcements were made on the bifurcation of the district, people from different walks of life and associations and service organisations gather in front of the arch bursting crackers.
Interestingly, it also became the starting point for taking out processions by them whenever any announcement was made on its merger with the Perambalur district.
