Library professionals told to prevent loss of valuable books by adopting innovative methods Services of library science experts from India to be used in developing countries DHARWAD: There is a need for another library movement in the State, journalist Patil Puttappa has said. He was speaking after felicitating president of Indian Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science (IATLIS) C.R. Karisiddappa and his wife at the 24th IATLIS national conference held at Manasollasa auditorium in Karnatak University here on Wednesday. Dr. Puttappa regretted that the development of library movement was not at the expected level. He called upon the library professionals to check the loss of valuable books by adopting innovative methods. He recalled the contributions of S.R. Ranganathan, B.S. Keshavan, Marshal, K.S. Deshpande to LIS (Library and Information Science) and underscored the need for taking the benefit of LIS to the common man. Ismail Abdullahi, Associate Professor, North Carolina Central University, School of Library and Information Science, Durham, said that the services of library and information science experts from India would be used in the developing countries. He said Dr. Karisiddappa was one among the experts. Muttaiah Kooganurmath, P.S. Halyal, Jagtar Singh, P. Padhi, R.S.R. Varalakshmi, S.L. Sangam, L.B. Kalburgi and Ashwini Vaishnavi spoke on the contribution of Dr. Karisiddappa. President of the felicitation committee V.G. Talawar read out the citation. Responding to the felicitation, Dr. Karisiddappa thanked his associates and friends. Vice-Chancellor of Karnatak University S.K. Saidapur, who presided over the function, released a book, “LIS profession in the knowledge society”. The book is dedicated to Dr. Karisiddappa. Convenor of the committee announced that a Karisiddappa foundation would be set up soon to fund training programmes in LIS education and programmes aimed at development of libraries. ConcludesThe 24th IATLIS national conference on “Equity of LIS education in IT-based pedagogical environment in the knowledge society” concluded on Wednesday. Registrar of Karnatak University Vinay Luthra was the chief guest at the valedictory ceremony. D. Chandran, D. Vijayalakshmi and P.E. Tadasad spoke. Dr. Talawar read out the resolutions while T.D. Kemparaju presented the annual report. Dr. Karisddappa presided over the valedictory ceremony.
